No is the story of the only deposing of a dictator by a popular vote - the Chilean referendum that ended the Pinochet regime.

Lovely humorous tone of voice, but didn’t shy from showing the grim oppression of the Pinochet. Also one of the few depictions of marketing people doing something positive - usually they are the villains.

The protagonist is an ad executive who persuades the opposition parties to campaign positively, and create hope. The campaign worked, helping Chileans believe that it would be possible to escape tyranny.

No was filmed on 80s video cameras - it takes a bit of getting used to, but draws you in after not too long.

The Mechanic on MUBI:

Watched The Mechanic on MUBI today.

It’s the best movies on demand service for me. Two main reasons:

Curated: There are 30 films, a new one each day. As a new one is introduced the oldest drops off. I like the limited choice - it cuts down on time rooting around to try and decide what to watch.
Variety: There’s serious art-house and more mainstream films like The Mechanic. Because there are only a few, you feel like taking a punt on them - I wouldn’t have bothered with The Mechanic if it hadn’t been on here - it doesn’t even have very good ratings on Rotten Tomatos etc. But it was a great, silly action flick.
